Peoples of Karnataka

Peoples in Karnataka have history of themselves. Peoples have been living with mutually beneficial contacts with their neighbor states such as Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andhra, Goa, Maharashtra. Kannadigas are the large majority in Karnataka, Other than Malayalis from Kerala and Tamilians from Tamilnadu are the peoples who got home in Karnataka. Apart from Kannadigas, Karnataka is home to Okkaligas, Lingayaths, Arebhase Gowdas, Kodavas, Kurubas, are the local castes in Karnataka State. Some places on the coast like Bhatkal has people of Arabic origin, having settled down there for centuries. Uttara Kannada and these people are called Siddhis.

Malayali Families have migrated into Mysore and Coorg Districts in large number. Kannada is the major language in Karnataka, other local languages Spoken are Tulu, Kodava Takk, Malayalam, Tamil , Telugu, Marati, Konkani. Jeno Kurubas and Bettada Kurubas inhabiting the forests of Coorg Districts and Dakshina Kannada Districts. almost of them living in the remote places in the forests with job of collecting honey and hunting animal for food. In the recent years Kurubas getting facilities with schemes for tribes from Government of Karnataka, So these tribes gathering with the local civilians. The various religious movements and regional customs have helped in evolving the Karnataka culture which has shaped the life of the people.
