Chickmaglur is the central place for malaenadu region and Somawarpete in Notrth Kodagu, Sakaleshapura, Mudigere, western ghats in Uttar Kannada District. These places under Malenadu region, some peoples believes Malenagu cuisine is the combination of coorg cuisine and Mangalorean cuisine. The cuisine highly influenced by fruits and vegetables available in the forests of western ghats. bamboo shoots, colocassia leaves, turmeric leaves, raw jackfruit are the origin of food of Malenadu, they are making different kind of dishes from these available ingredients in the Forests.
