There are 18 ports, they are located in Uttar Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts, they are Bhatkal, Shirali, Murdeshwar, Manki, Honavar, Kumta, Tadri, Ankola, Belikeri, Chendiya, Binaga, Karwar and Majali in Uttara Kannada. Mangalore (Old Port), New Mangalore Port and Malpe in Dakshina Kannada, Hangarakatta, Kundapur and Baindur in Udupi District. In the recent days Ocean Transportation are busy and more than 70% of the Imports and Exports running through Ocean with Cargo Ships. Spices, Coffee Beans, Manganese, Raw Materials, and other valuable items importing and Exporting. The traffic in nine ports exceeded 1,100,000 tonnes annually, based on the traffic volume, Karwar port, Belikeri, Tadri, Honavar, Bhatkal, Kundapur, Hangarakatta, old port of Mangalore and Malpe was taken up for development as an All-weather port.
