About Kudremukh, Chikmagalur

Kudremukh is the Beautiful Mountain range in Chikmagalur District. It is also the name of the famous hill station town situated close to the mountain, the word Kudremukh literally means 'Horse Face' and the view of the side of the mountains resembles the same, so the Place named as Kudremukh. There are rich iron resources in this land that make it mining town, Government run Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd.

This Town surrounded by the lush grassland and thick forests makes the greenery in the ranges of hills from all sides. Kudremukh on lies on the Western Ghats ranges, it is famous for bio diversity and identified as one of the hot spots in the world.

The Ore companies situated around in place that busy in operations, purifications and transportation of the slurry to the Mangalore port. Currently Kudremukh is rising as Modern Township in Chikmagalur.

Nethravathi, Tunga and Bhadra is the famous rivers that originates from Kudremukh, Godess Bhagavathi Temple and the Cave with Varaha Statue of 6 feet tall are attracting many visitors here.

Trekking is one of the ideal in Kudremukh for trekkers, rivers and valleys make it beautiful and adventurous spot for nature lovers and trekkers. It is the breathtaking and refreshing spot for Visitors. Some of the well known trekking routes are -
  • The trekking leading from Samse - Kudremukh - Samse the trek time around 4 days, the distance is about 40 km.
  • The routes come through Navoor - Hevala - Kudremukh - Navoor, the avg time of the trek is 5 days and distance is over 60 km.
  • This route is from Horanadu to Sringeri with duration of 3 day and covering total distance of more than 30 km.
  • Another route is Navoor – Kudremukh – Samse, the duration for this trek is about 5 days and the total distance of around 50 km.
Climate of Kudremukh:
During the summer (March to May) the temperature about 32o C to 35o C and during the winter season in December to February pleasant season about 17o C to 20o C. The range of temperature lying between 10o C to 35o C throughout the year.

The climate in the Kudremukh National Park is cool and pleasant that makes animals spotting everywhere, but in the monsoon that difficult to spot Animals. The season best for trekking except monsoon, so the best season in from October to February.

How to reach Kudremukh:
The Nearest Airport in Mangalore about 130 km away and Bangalore Airport which located around 350 km. The Major railway station in Mangalore situated 50 km 60 km. Government and Private Buses provides services frequently from Major cities of Karnataka.
