About Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Chikmagalur

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary situated in Chikmagalur District, Established in 1974 and stands between 750 to 2100 meters above sea level. Jagara village also situated near to this Sanctuary, there are wide range of flora and fauna. The Sanctuary surrounded by Mullaianagiri, Hebbegiri, Gangegiri and Bababudangiri hills. Back waters of the Bhadra Reservoir cover 1,968 square km surrounded by slopes and peaks.

The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary consists moist and dry deciduous, Semi evergreen forests that make it Biodiversity hotspot.

The common flora in Bhadra Wildlife is Teak, rosewood, mathi, hone, nandi, tadasalu, kindal, medicinal plants, Bamboo. The Animals are Tiger, Leopard, Wild dog, Jackal, gaur, Sloth Bear, Elephant, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Wild boar, Langur, Bonnet Macaque, Malabar giant Squirrel and reptiles such as King Cobra, Common Cobra, Russell’s viper, Bamboo pit viper, rat snake, Olive, Keelback, Common Indian Monitor, Gliding lizards and Crocodiles. Yam flies, Baronets, Crimson rose, Southern Bird Wing, Great orange tip, Bamboo tree brown and Blue Pansy are the common Butterflies.
