Water Transport in Karnataka

Water Transportation which includes inland and ocean transportation for the growth of State. This is also the Cheapest transportation, because small boats can carry large amount of goods in a single ride. Motor boats are very faster and it’s saving time of every business. Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannda and udupi Districts are favorable for water transport (these all districts in the coastal of Karnataka). Most of the rivers can navigable portions like Kali, Sharavathi, Gangavali, Aghanashini, Halady, Kubja, Chakra and Kollur are best rivers for water transports. Water transports are very useful in which villages and towns are not accessible by road and where there are no bridges to connect villages. Foreign boats also travelling through coastal rivers (rivers which are connecting to Arabian Sea in Karnataka Coastal).

Inland Waterways branch was created on 1972 in Karwar of Uttar Kannada District. Many of the Ferry Services directly run by the Inland waterways and there are 673 ferries in the beginning stage. But now there are 366 Ferries operating by Government and some of the ferries by Private. Construction of roads transporting systems and Bridges is the main reason to drop ferries in Karnataka. Anyway Inland transportation is the very cheaper and easiest transportation all time. This is also one of the best attracting thing to Tourists.
