Jain Meguti Temple belongs to the Galaganatha Group of Temple and is located on a small hilltop in Aihole. According to inscriptions, the temple was built in 634 AD by Ravikeerthi, a commander and minister of Pulakesin II. Though these temples were not completed, their carving and style is more refined than the Badami Cave Temples and other temples of that era.
At present, the temple is in ruins and features an important evidence of the early development of Dravidian style of architecture during the ruling period of Pulakesin II. The temple is situated on a raised platform and its roof offers a beautiful view of more than 100 temples, which are located below the hill.
Earlier the temple had a large pillared mukha mantapa , but later 16-columns porch and hall extension were done to add beauty to this ancient shrine. The idol enshrined in this temple is a seated Jain figure, which is rising above the sanctum wall of the temple.
